So I just got back from a 2-day conference in Stockholm, Sweden. Notice that the FAKE TELEGRAM account - that I implore all of you to denounce, report and unfollow - has only been posting shit that has nothing to do with my actual work. Please do report it as FAKE. I am following up with a cease and desist. But enough of wannabe imposters impostering…

It was a wonderful time. Not just because the conference was a roaring success by any definition of success, but because it brought together some very special people. I had one extra day of fun before the seriousness started to enjoy Stockholm and I really did. I had a wonderful hot bowl of onion soup as I sat and chatted with Aseem Malhotra - a fabulous human indeed.

This is Stockholm when it’s really sunny. :) It is really beautiful.

It is historic and rich and I implore everyone to visit and to see the Swedish War Ship (Vasa) that sunk on her maiden voyage due to being built too top-heavy.

I got everyone into shakas. And Robert told me the wonderful story of its origins - a man named Hamana Kalili of Laie, Oahu, lost the three middle fingers of his hand to a mill accident, and the shaka was born.

Ryan and I crafted this Viking tin-foil hat on the bus ride to the conference (day 2) with the help of Meryl Nass. :)

And warm hugs after playing ping-pong. Aseem is also a very good ping-pong player! It’s wild to meet someone for the first time and automatically be not only their friend but a kindred spirit. That’s the silver lining in all of this and we need to hang onto these moments and those kindred spirits among us.

Geert Vanden Bossche. One of my favorite people on Earth. He gave an excellent talk. This is my third conference with him attending and speaking as well and besides really connecting with him on the nerdy science stuff, I really got to understand how similar we are in terms of our approaches to science: we both start from scratch and ask questions that not many others are asking. He has a book coming out in about a week that he has been writing for months so stay tuned for that!

Pierre Kory. My brother from another mother. He also gave an excellent talk. And kicked ass at ping-pong. And breakdancing.

Arne Burkhardt. Wow. His presentation was jam-packed with the most stunning pathology slides I have ever seen. His work is so impactful and I literally took a photo of every single one of his slides. Here are a few. He found spike and amyloid everywhere.

Aseem Malhotra. A true warrior with a patina that will weather any coming storm. A new and wonderful friend. He also gave an excellent talk. He will be my guest on my CHD show coming up on the 27th! Stay tuned for that as well.

Ryan made us all laugh on Sunday morning with his inspiring talk and his awesome viking tin-foil hat.

About 1,500 amazing Swedes with about 8% medical doctors in attendance. You guys were AMAZING. Really. This is all about YOU.

I truly can’t describe how wonderful these experiences are. The ripple effect that will happen from this particular conference is going to influence the entire world. I don’t think it; I know it.

To Lisa, Jonathan, Aga, Sven, all of the speakers and to the Swedes in attendance: WELL DONE. It was an impeccable 3 days. And thank you very much to Royal Park Stockholm for putting us up and feeding us. Your service was wonderful.
