We had a AWA wrestler named Nick Nick Bockwinkel speak at a sociology lecture when I was in college. The high point of the talk was when a student raised his had and told him "Hey Nick your zipper is open."
I met Hercules Hernandez almost 30 years ago after his WWF career had ended. He was apprenticing as a laborer for a local contractor in Tampa. His real name was Ray Fernandez. We became good friends and he gave his life to Christ at the 1st event at Raymond James Stadium, at a Billy Graham crusade. He died a couple years later of a heart attack in his sleep. He loved his family.
And yet honest debate needs to be had. We need to revisit and talk about freedom versus accommodation. What is concerning is that in this day and date of participation trophies, people feel entitled to have the world bend to their preferences.
We need to talk about the needs of the many versus the few. We need to talk about under what circumstances lives of all are upended for the benefit of the vulnerable. New generations need to be exposed to evergreen principles.
We don’t have to be scientists to have debates of this sort, and yet cut away the platitudes about case rates and long term effects, this is really what the debates surround.
Well that and how obvious it becomes that government should stay out of such debates as they lack the nuance and intelligence to even begin to parse the complexity and multi faceted aspects of dealing with healthcare challenges.
