Thank you so much for sharing your experience and these wonderful photos with those of us who will never be able to get within 3,000 miles of Bath. Do those red phone boxes still work? I haven't seen a phone box here in the U.S. in decades. I remember when they used to have them on the freeway. Well not a huge phone box but a small one so if you broke down you could call someone instead of waiting for a good Samaritan to stop. Now, if you don't want to carry a cell phone (or there is no tower to connect to) that is your only choice.

Beautiful! Did you float in the Roman baths or stay in the Royal Crescent where "The Wrong Box" was filmed? 79 years ago today my Uncle Roy landed with the British 50th Division on Gold Beach in Normandy. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. 1st Army in charge of a 155mm gun, but he landed with the British on Gold Beach. He was with the Brits for 6 weeks before the breakout at St-Lo when he was reunited with the US 1st Army. He was sorry to leave the Brits because they were given a big Cadbury chocolate bar every day.

I visited St-Lo together with my wife and two young children back in 1968 I think it was. We stayed overnight in a beautiful old stone hotel and had a wonderful 5 course dinner at 7 francs each. We took the car ferry back to Weymouth in England from Cherbourg.

From photographs now available on the internet, it seems as if those all those historic buildings have disappeared.

I wonder what that dinner would cost today? I traveled all over Europe in 1973 and 1974 for 8 months on less than $5 a day. In Ireland, Spain, Greece, and Turkey it cost only $2 a day. Switzerland, Germany, and Scandinavia cost $6 or 7 a day. Those were the days, my friend, we thought they'd never end.

Beautiful. Water ways are so cool. Architecture so detailed. 5 am not a soul around. Thanks for planting inspirational seeds to travel.

Lovely, thanks for sharing. I love the red phone boxes. They remind me of the ones used in the Harry Potter later movies. It does not look like that one is operational but serves as a nice planter. These scenes look very peaceful. Interesting that they are no people in any of the shots. the places look deserted. Maybe you took the photos early morning before everyone was up. Thanks again

No, they don’t work any more - most have been removed, but a few, like this one, have been left in place for fun. In some places they are being used as tiny book exchanges.

When I was growing up in Birmingham, there was a red phone box at the end of my street.

To make a call you first had to insert three copper pennies before dialing. If the party did not answer you pressed button A to get your money back. If they answered you pressed button B and were connected for three minutes. The call could be extended by inserting another three pennies.

I loved Bath also. It transported me back to the 1700’s when it was at its peak and even further back during Roman times. I stuck to the touristy spots - limited time - so the countryside and inner city shots were delightful to see. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Great, great photos!! I too, heart the ones of the gorgeous berries and the Mute Swan family. Adding this marvelous city to my list, for this time of year, based on the fabulous album you so wisely posted...the world needs this, as well the "Better Way!" Looks like it was a lovely gathering. Many thanks. P.S. and *all* the ones you took, especially the street views with vanishing points ["Mercy in Action Charity Shop" definitely takes the biscuit...!] and the astonishing green-ness against the ancient stonework. Deluxe.
