Remember when I said if you see me looking up in my Zoom calls today or recordings that it’s because I was making sure old wolfie was not ‘somewhere unknown’? Well, not only did he not stay put but he jumped down onto my arm during a recording with James Lyons-Weiler, Geert Vanden Bosche and Mathew Crawford for Unbreaking Science. The episode was all about ‘Stacking’ - our Substack experiences shared in a friendly and non-formal way.
So luckily we are all friends and had a good laugh. James slowed it down for everyone to see. It’s too funny. Geert proclaims: “Ok! Jessica is gone!”
Anyone know what kind of pidey this is? I think it’s a wolf spider. It’s been 15 years of living in this place and in all my travels and hikes and shitty apartments, I never saw one this big. He’s 2 inches in diameter and decided to sit right above my head. So if you see me looking up during my Zoom calls, it’s because I am making sure the little bugger is still there and not in my bed or in my shoes.
People talk about 'manifesting' stuff... So you watched Arachnophobia last night and then this 'friend' shows up?! Yikes! Maybe you should instead watch movies about becoming rich? lol
Mediterranean Spiny False Wolf Spider, a species of False wolf spiders
Mediterranean Spiny False Wolf Spiders (Zoropsis spinimana) do not spin a web to wait for their prey. Instead, their silk is used to protect their young and they hunt by prowling and pouncing on their prey. It is called "false wolf spider" because it is regularly confused for a Wolf Spider.
The mediterranean Spiny False Wolf Spider can cause toxic reactions with a wide range of severity. However, the toxins are typically targeted at their prey and predators. They are usually not fatal to humans.
I used this app called “PictureThis” on iOS. Amazing app I use all the time for plant, insect, and bird identification!
