Time for negative customer reviews.

yes. Put the booking.com link for this property here.It should have a red warning label on it, and we can all put reviews and requests to booking.com to warn customers or delist it. This ultimately will harm booking.com's reputation the most and they should be the most concerned about these crooks muddying their name.

Anyone who, like me, has decided to avoid Booking.com will do well to note that, according to Wikipedia, "Booking Holdings Inc. is an American travel technology company ..." "... that owns and operates several travel fare aggregators and travel fare metasearch engines including namesake and flagship Booking.com, Priceline.com, Agoda, Kayak, Cheapflights, Rentalcars.com, Momondo, and OpenTable. It operates websites in about 40 languages and 200 countries."

With AmEx this is easy. I had a merchant try to fight it but going back and forth more than once, ultimately AmEx agreed with me that I should not have to pay.

I guess you'd have to charge Bibi and Trumpy Pumkin, for lost money, or maybe charge all the bamboozled, who voted for them? But hey, maybe everything is perfect? People worshiping those satanists, willfully and blindly, often got injected with that bioweapon / bio cyber interface. The airline is probably not responsible for compromised warmongering or remote controlled presidents, getting a hard-on when watching underage girls... or are they? Did they fly to Epstein Island?

Which credit card company is it? I've never used booking.com, but they should be able to put a red warning label on rentals that have open disputes and bad reviews. I love on Amazon how they have a red warning note on some products that says "Item often returned." That tells you all you need to know right there.

Irunthis1's avatar

Ugh. It really does matter what credit card you use. Pick a new company, one with spectacular reviews on their customer service and protection. Back in 2019 my extended family and I had booked a tour of Italy for spring 2020. Guess who didn’t go to Italy? Fortunately I got back almost all of the money spent (they wouldn’t refund the insurance interestingly although I didn’t have to “use”it to get my refund). Still, the absolute inhumane way that the gal at the hotel refused to help you even though it would have been less of a hassle to do so (and cost her absolutely nothing) is astonishing. It speaks volumes about her (lack of) character.

Expand full comment
Marjorie Miller's avatar

Yup. This looks like the next good step. The credit card companies have big lawyer depts that switch the Big Dog Little Dog positions on jerk companies. They can just take it from them and give it back to you with your documented story and tell the jerk company to have their lawyers give them a call, just like the jerk company is implying for you to do. Not to mention, if companies that accept credit cards have to have a dispute settled by the credit card company, they are charged a fee for that as well as the refund. At the point you take it to the credit card company, the credit card company is protecting their reputation.

I am originally from Prague and I am truly sorry. This kind of behaviour is one of the reason why I have left my home country many years ago … too many cheaters and robbers. I had the feeling that it has changed during those years but apparently not everywhere. Don’t take me wrong, I do know many, many good people there who would help you without blinking their eyes but still I am cautious when I do business there, mostly with bigger companies. For some of them, they do not understand that they would not exist without us.

Also, I do not like Bookings.com, I do not trust them, I prefer Airbnb as most of the properties offer no cancellation fee until the day before arrival and I always choose that - you never know.

You may try to write a review on the property.

Regarding the travel insurance - I just closed one for myself. It clearly states that it does not cover any incidents happened in countries like Israel, parts of Ukraine, Iran, Syria etc. It might be written in yours too.

Again, I am sorry for the experience that you had with the Czech company.

I had a friend who had a terrible problem with Airbnb in Switzerland - the owner of the property charged her with damaging something, which she didn't, and she had to stay extra days in Switzerland and go to court and resolve it. This is a woman who speaks at the United Nations - she is not a low life or a criminal - they were trying to get extra money from her for these non-existant damages. She cleared herself at court. Seems like there was some other really outrageous Air B & B story but it's been a long time and I can't remember it now, but there was a problem with the property that could not be resolved. So I would not use them either. But I certainly won't forget and use booking.com EVER again. I looked at Booking.com to see how to email them and I could not find it - if I had the email I would contact booking.com and SeNo6. I would think no one should book any properties in Czech Republic through booking.com because SeNo6 perhaps would change their name if everyone stops booking them. I am thinking perhaps this is intentionally anti-Semitic, Jessica, since you were in Israel... ? And yes, someone else said, find the government regulator that regulates most hotels and booking services. And even Czech government department of tourism?

Hana Rydl's avatar

I suppose all is about people. There are good and bad people everywhere.

I would not seek any anti-semitic or any other political intention in this, it was just greed for extra €1400.

Martha72's avatar

Maybe so - but they rebooked so they certainly got their money - and they knew it was because of the war, and it does seem like there is a lot of pro-Palestine feeling going around these days. But maybe it had nothing to do with anything but greed.

You are right to protest and to publicize! My Paypal account was locked after I received payment from the Obama Foundation for licensing a phtoograph for the opening exhibit of the Obama Presidential Library. After 8 weeks and unanswered letters to Paypal's Legal Dept, my account was unlocked only because I filed a complaint with Vermont Department of Financial regulations. YOu have to find a bigger dog to get the one attacking you to back off. WIshing you much success in this muckracking crusade, Jessica! YOu are fighting for all of us on all fronts!

Why anyone uses Paypal always amazes me.

You are far better off from a legal point of view if you use your bank account credit or debit cards features, since when something goes wrong with a transaction, the bank will invariably start an investigation into the matter, and if you make the complaint in a timely manner will usually resolve the issue to your satisfaction.

I don't want to hijack Jessica's post but if you need to process international payments, for example, a request this morning for a photograph of Bill MOllison teaching Permaculture in 1981, for an exhibit in France and worldwide for the next four years, and they don't do bank transfers without filling out three complicated registration forms for their payments, what would you suggest? I'm all ears....

I have no idea :-)

Back in my heyday I was in international metal trader, where I relied upon personal acquaintance with the counterparty in another country, then a telephone conversation followed by a telex exchange and a written sales/purchase contract. This might involve opening a letter of credit with my bank for a purchase. For a sale I would insist on transfer of title to the goods in question by a bonded warehouse in Rotterdam, before I would send a coded telex message to my bank to make the money transfer.

I sympathise with you Jessica, it is so frustrating . I had a similar experience when my flight to Amsterdam was cancelled. I got the flight money back and the hotel said they would only charge for the first night as a "no show".

Opodo part of Expedia, despite all my considerable efforts would not pay me the outstanding amount.

My lesson is never book a flight or hotel through a 3rd party, always go directly .

It happens to all of us. We just bought our daughter a Jeep. It got towed from in front of her apartment because it had temporary tags, not the license plate the parking nazis use to check permits. Small oversight. We went to the towing company to provide proof of ownership but none of the paperwork was accepted. The dealership where we bought it had made an error when THEY bought it from the original owner. Didn’t matter. Towing company wouldn’t release it until paperwork was fixed. 3 weeks later we got the right paperwork. It cost $1,900 to get the Jeep out of car prison. Towing company didn’t give a shit. Dealer didn’t give a shit. We were screwed out of $1,900. Maybe I should write an article about it.

My experience has taught me to not make any reservations with bookings.com. We had a similar issue with Westjet. They cancelled a flight I was taking and bc my reservation didn’t originate with them I was responsible for paying the fee to rebook and finding a flight was near impossible. I was forced to upgrade and so in the end my cost was almost double.

I had a similar problem with Booking.com in Spain. I booked a room with a/c but the hotel only had a/c during certain months. That wasn’t stated anywhere on the booking description and the hotel wouldn’t even provide a fan. Like you , I went through days of back and forth with booking.com to be finally told that they needed the hotel’s permission. The hotel never responded to my request for permission, I could literally never get anyone on the phone there. Anyway—it seems to be a policy of booking.com to require this “permission” so why do they make you chase them for that information! And I’m so sorry about your ruined trip but glad you’re safe.

It sounds like a pre-arranged scam. Booking.com claims they will refund you with permission from the hotel, when they full-well know that the hotels will decline to give permission. They just assume people will give up in frustration.

Booking.com tried to screw me for reserved, upgraded airline seats for which I paid, but for which the airline had no record and refused to honor. This was several hundred dollars.

Booking's customer service was worse than worthless. I finally recovered my money through a credit card chargeback. The same might work for you.
